Exclusive interview with Boi Blue_Lavar McRae

"My advice to them would be to believe in yourself, be yourself, and know what you want out of life. "

1. How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

I’ve been in the music industry since 2011. Music has always been a part of my life, and I've always wanted to be a part of it!

2. Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

Yes, I was sixteen years old when I wrote and recorded my first song, which gained local momentum. I performed at high school parties with my friends and at the time it made me feel like star! Not knowing at that time it was going to take way more than that, and I really had a long way to go.

3. What inspires you (or your music)?

Life has always been an inspiration for my music. I'm a realist, I only write what I see, what I've experienced, or things that I want to see in my future.

4. Who’s on your iTunes playlist?

My iTunes is pretty simple really, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Drake, and a little of Future.

5. The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?

The idea for my new single "A Long Way" was more of a creative process. Dope sound, crazy beat, great lyrics! The lyrics came from a voice note that I recorded on my iPhone, I sent them to my producer, he orchestrated the track and the rest is history. Plus I dare to be different, I consider myself as a trendsetter, we love the fact that it doesn't sound like anything else that's out.

6. There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Yes there are thousands of talented artists, but there is only one "Boi Blue". I've studied the game as well, so it's more than just making music, it's about building a brand, and that's what I've been doing, that is what's most important to me.

7. I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

Thank you! That means a lot to me. I feel like you must evolve in everything that you do to be successful. I've always paid close attention to what's going on, and make moves based on that, and being myself at the same time. A entertainer should be a spokesman for the people, so evolution is a major key!

8. Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Yes, I love to write, which has been a passion of mines since I could remember. I would love to write movie scripts, short plays and etc one day. Passion is  a very essential part of success, because without it things become harder, it would feel more like a job instead of something that you really love do.

9. With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

My advice to them would be to believe in yourself, be yourself, and know what you want out of life. If this is something that you truly want it will fall into play, don't be afraid to take loses and learn from your mistakes. Patience is a friend not an enemy.
