1. How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?
Ever since I can remember, I have been involved in music. I remember singing so much that my sister Christina, who was trying to sleep, would get mad at me for waking her up. I became really serious about music in my late teens, and I knew this was the career I wanted to pursue. My parents have always been supportive of my music but didn’t realize I wanted to make a career out of it. This all changed when I was accepted to Berklee College of Music. I recently put out my first single “Think Twice” on November 15th and I am really excited about it!
2. Was there a moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?
I saw how happy people would get watching my older sister perform songs from the musical Annie. Watching her perform gave me the inspiration to do the same.
3. What inspires you (or your music)?
My family has always been a big inspiration for me. I have musicians on both sides of my family and grew up watching them perform for a living. This helped give me confidence that I could do the same.
4. Who’s on your iTunes playlist?
My iTunes playlist is a variety of artists. You will see Kehlani, Michael Buble, MJ, Chris Brown, John Mayer, Usher, and you will also see a lot of country music!!
5. The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?
I was actually in the studio recording another song and I wasn’t vibing with the song, so we began creating ideas for a new song that ended up turning into my single, "Think Twice"!
6. There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?
I think my love for exploring with different genres and creating new sounds with my voice will help me succeed more in the music industry.
7. I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?
I think the coolest part in growing as an artist is finding something new and fresh that makes you want to jump out of your seat!! I like taking what I love in other artists and creating my own sounds from that. The electronic music scene today is dominating. A downfall is that live musicians are less needed because of the digital age and because of the ability to create sounds with technology.
8. Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?
I have many passions in life! I am very passionate about working with little kids and helping people. I love giving back to the community and the rewarding feeling I get is priceless. I think the key to success is having passion. I couldn't imagine going through life and not doing something I love.
9. With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?
My advice to other musicians would be to work with as many musicians as possible, and always be open minded in the music industry. Networking is key in the music industry.
