An exclusive interview with The Mob

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music has always been a part of your life?

The Mob: We have been in the music industry for 8 years now. Music has always been a part of our lives, our entire family is musically talented in one way or another.

Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, "music is what I want to do"?

The Mob: There was a point in time when we all tried doing something different in life, like sports, furthering our education to be doctors and lawyers... but, when a seed is planted inside you from a higher power, you just know. We all knew our calling to be music, we didn't just wake up one day and say to each other: Hey, let's do music. We were born for this, we came into this world holding key notes.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

The Mob: Music itself inspires us. Understand that to us in order to create and craft any song you have to know that music is living and it breathes through all of us, we appreciate music existence that came before actual existence. Music's proof of life is the emotional experience you feel when listening to it, regardless if listening with words or instrument of choice. Just knowing music is alive, it's the biggest inspiration for us... Like seriously, who in their right mind wouldn't want to be a part of life and its miraculous flow.

Upcoming 100: Who's on your iTunes playlist?

The Mob: We have a variety from Sade, Dom Kennedy, Notorious B.I.G, Bob Marley, Dr. Dre, Stevie Nicks, Beatles, Nirvana, our Man Marvin Gaye, Tupac, Rick James... the list literally goes on and on... gotta say we listen to a variety of greatness.

Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea fro it come about?

The Mob: The Watchtower was all vibe an energy between the five us brainstorming and flowing with the music to come up with something great.

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

The Mob: See, the thing with us is we are authentic, "meaning" we come with our own style, genre, sound, personality, and its five of us who never bump heads (compliments to mom). We don't just listen to instrumentals and write, we get to know the music, we listen together, we take the music apart, put it back together and create as one. We don't ride the wave, we are the wave every time with every project.

Upcoming 100: I've heard your latest music and it's amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the few years from previous songs we've heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

The Mob: Thank you! We really appreciate your support. An artist will always grow and develop with time, it's always room for betterment, a growth rather it be the artist or music itself. Music will continue to evolve with every new artist and every new wave... we're all happy to be a part of the growth process.

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

The Mob: Having a passion for what you do is an essential x's a thousand especially with it being your special gift... you can't do something you're not passionate about and expect to succeed... that's short term success ***t.

Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, what advice would you give to someone just starting our in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

The Mob: We would say take your time, get to know yourself an really take the time to know if music is what you really want to do in life. The inside of music is really a job, the outside of it looks effortless but think twice on that thought. If you wanna succeed you have to be willing to sacrifice everything you love. Yes, there will be times you feel like things are not moving fast enough, but you have to be patient and humble. You might feel sometimes you're taking more loses than gains and that ***t maybe true but... for every struggle and lose there will be a blessing of a much bigger gain in your favor.

Upcoming 100: Where can potential fans find out more about you?

The Mob: You can find us on twitter: @Northside_Mob, on Instagram: Mob_Northside, on Facebook: Northside Mob, on SoundCloud: NorthsideMob, on datpiff: The Mob Watchtower and we can booked at [email protected]
