Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?
Leak: I Have been in the music industry since I was 16 and music has always been a part of my life. I started playing the violin and also taught myself how to play the piano.
Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?
Leak: I heard my brother on the radio. Before I heard him on the radio I used to feel like making it in this industry was impossible but he taught me that it is possible.
Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?
Leak: The only thing that inspires me when it comes to my music is real life situations.
Upcoming 100: Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’
Leak: Cee-Lo, B.O.B, Andre 300 and many others but those are the main people I listen to.
Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?
Leak: It came about organically and its actually still in the works so the ideas are still being put together.
Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?
Leak: Because I am not afraid to be who I am. I like to think I’m more original than others which gives me more creative ideas. I don’t copy what I hear others do I create my own lane.
Upcoming 100: I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?
Leak: I love the evolution of music today. Music is music no matter what and its always going to change. I like music from the past and the present and I’m hoping to create the wave for the future.
Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?
Leak: You have to have a passion to do anything. I have a passion of bringing out the best of people when it comes to the music. I love seeing the growth in others and even myself.
Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?
Leak: You can do it. Consistency is the key. There will be people that will try and bring you down but those people are eventually going to become your biggest fans. You can do anything you want to do. Failure is not an option.
