Exclusive Interview with Mori White

An exclusive interview with Mori White.

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

Mori White: I have been in the music industry for about four to
five years now but music has been a part of my life since I was in elementary school. I have always loved music and I cannot imagine life without it.

Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

Mori White: Yes, I went to the studio session with my brother for his session and that inspired me to get in there and record my own sound.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

Mori White: My nephew and my drive to always get better inspires me. I am never satisfied and never want to become complacent.

Upcoming 100: Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’

Mori White: Drake, Andre 3000, Big Sean, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z… to name a few.

Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?

Mori White: The project is called “Open Door” and it came about because I want my introduction to the industry to be as open and vulnerable as I can be.

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Mori White: I feel like my sound is different and I have my own lane of what I sound like and I feel like my music is for everyone. Sometimes I feel like mainstream music all starts to sound the same and I feel like mine is refreshing.

Upcoming 100: I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

Mori White: I feel like the evolution of an artist is important. Music is always changing and evolving and that means for artists they need to always keep evolving in order to keep up with the times. Artists have to be able to crossover and always enhance their skill and craft. The way music has evolved is amazing and it has always made people feel good but the preference of sound always changes and I like how it keeps artist on their toes.

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Mori White: I have passion for developing apps, script writing, owning a business, shoe designing, having a clothing line, having a network, and owning a radio station. I have so many things I want to do and I am enjoying building the brand.

Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

Mori White: I would tell that person to never give up on your dreams and to always be better tomorrow than you were yesterday. Never quit on yourself because no one is going to support you like you will. Stay the course and take the bumps and bruises because it will only make you stronger.
