Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?
TopCxt: I signed with my first label at 14. Music has always been in my life. I got my first cassette tape at 7. Music has and always will be a part of my life.
Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?
TopCxt: Yes of course. When I saw the “Hot Boys” for the first time on TV, it looked like they were rapping from my neighborhood. That made me appreciate music and I knew it from that point.
Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?
TopCxt: I get a lot of inspiration from my family and the support they have for me makes it a lot easier to write.

TopCxt: Future
Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?
TopCxt: 6ix is the month I was born in and that’s where I got the idea of the name. This is also my first album. It’s like I’m reborn into the music industry .
Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?
TopCxt: My unique style is my advantage. I’m also an artist who can create music in every genre, which is also an advantage.
Upcoming 100: I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?
TopCxt: I feel like hip hop is now mainstream in the music industry. I’m definitely trying to evolve in that direction. It definitely takes time and lots of practice for an artist to evolve into excellence. The longer you continue to work at your craft, you will notice the things you should change and what should stay the same .
Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?
TopCxt: Definitely! You have to love what you do or you won’t be successful. Music is my only passion it’s a part of me.
Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?
TopCxt: Keep trying and never give up. You may not have a studio right now but you can still write! Look into local recording studios, save up, and check them out. You’ll find the right one!
