Exclusive Interview with Troy Remedy

An exclusive interview with Troy Remedy.

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

Troy Remedy: For a few years now.  And yes, music has been around since the beginning. Getting lost in a new track was and still is one of the dopest feelings.

Upcoming 100:  Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

Troy Remedy : Gravitated towards music since youth and considered it a form of therapy and it eventually became a relentless pursuit of my own artistic capabilities. The point in my life where it was clear that this was the path was when I was at my lowest.  Music was the way out.  Being able to transition from listening to creating and turning something out of nothing is what has kept me going.

Upcoming 100:   What inspires you (or your music)?

Troy Remedy: Everything that encompasses this world and everyone I come in contact with.

Upcoming 100:  Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’

Troy Remedy: We lost a legend in Aretha Franklin. Been listening to her lately…  Also some new Underground raps and beats from across the country.

Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?

Troy Remedy: Always felt like an underdog.  Having to scrap and claw to survive the madness but relished at the task and took it like a badge of honor.  This project reflects on anyone who’s ever felt counted out or written off.  Those who feel they're capable of rising to the occasion when the chips are down especially when everyone is expecting them to lose.  The ambition to change your scenario, fighting to overcome the past or present and the struggle are all leading to something better.  Whatever it is that's holding you back, push all of it aside and move forward.

Upcoming 100:  There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Troy Remedy: The heart and soul that's poured into it…  Passion describes the music more than anything. That fight in you. Feel it's reflected within the rhymes, beats and overall production.  With all the different sounds, instruments and ideas, there is no limitation to what you will hear. Creating quality music is the only thing that matters.

Upcoming 100:  I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

Troy Remedy : The evolution of an artist has always been intriguing because it has us adjust our mindset and expectations to something new.  There's a lot that goes into the growth, life in general always gives us new perspective and inspiration but that's part of the process.  For the artist, there are a lot of factors that tie into the evolution, both positive and negative.  And only they know what type of content they are truly striving for.  Music is always evolving; never know where it will lead next.

Upcoming 100:  Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Troy Remedy: There are a few other things that keep the candle lit but this one burns the brightest.  Yes, it's an important factor.  Being passionate means you're still alive.  You have something worth getting out of bed for.

Upcoming 100:  With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

Troy Remedy: Hustle and stack. Every chorus you go over or paper you tear up from a new verse, keep at it. Long days, low on funds and bills to pay with all of life's bullshit at your doorstep, no matter what… keep writing and having the ear on the beats.
Hang in there and show everyone what you’re made of.

Upcoming 100:  Where can potential fans find out more about you?

Troy Remedy: New single on the way called "Steal My Soul". Video will be available on YouTube soon and on all platforms including iTunes and Spotify.
