Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

Arica Queen: I've been in the industry for 6 years. Music has definitely always been a part of my life, from dancing, to writing, to instruments, to rapping.

Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

Arica Queen: Yes, it was when I got into my first cypher in high school, it was more than rap. It was when I realized that I wanted to entertain.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

Arica Queen: Life is my greatest inspiration. It’s all the experiences,  good and bad, that gives the music substance.

Upcoming 100: Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’ 

Arica Queen: JayZ, Eminem, Kodak Black, Mary J & Alicia Keys

Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?

Arica Queen: Well, I wanted to do an upbeat song about the perfect guy, the guy that gives his woman everything she wants! Lol!

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Arica Queen: I think my dedication to the craft and always wanting to get better & better...oh can't leave out how dope I am!

Upcoming 100: I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

Arica Queen: I think evolving is a must for any career, especially if you're expecting longevity. Music is certainly evolving quickly and I appreciate all genres.  I’m anxious to see where it will go next and I'm here for the ride!

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Arica Queen: There are certainly other things  that I am good at doing, but when it comes to passion, music is where it lies.  Passion is absolutely an essential part of success  because your talent may get you there, but your passion will keep you there.

Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

Arica Queen: I would tell them to do their homework and their research so that they're always on top of their game, and to surround themselves with people who are positive and on the same path.
