Exclusive Interview with Va-Cay

An exclusive interview with Va-Cay.

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

Va-Cay: I just got into the music game this past year, but music has always been a vital part of my life. I listen to all genres and it’s been one of my biggest releases in life

Upcoming 100:  Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

Va-Cay: I always would freestyle with my friends and was told I could do music if I really wanted to, but it didn’t really click for me until I really focused and put pen to paper and wrote my first song. Once I seen the reactions I was getting from the music I created was the day I knew I wanted to do music.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

Va-Cay: Music inspires me to express myself with the sounds I hear in my head and create my own message. It’s really personal for me, every song I make. So every time I make a new song, it’s like a part of me is being displayed and that alone inspires me to be true to myself.

Upcoming 100: Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’

Va-Cay: Drake, Cole, Kendrick, Uzi, PND, Young Thug, Wayne

Upcoming 100: The project you are currently promoting, how did the idea for it come about?

Va-Cay: With all the artists reaching for what I’m reaching for, it’s going to be tough to make it big, but that isn’t my only goal. I feel my music is different, it’s original. My music was inspired by so many great artists, but I still developed my own sound. I feel that’s what separates me from current new artists. Everyone’s tryna be something but themselves.

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Va-Cay: I had so much music I was working on and so many different sounds that they contradicted one another. So I thought of the idea of double album to drop to show the growth as an artist and a person.

Upcoming 100: I’ve heard your latest music and it’s amazing! I can definitely tell your sound has evolved over the past few years from previous songs we’ve heard from you online. What are your thoughts on the evolution of an artist and the evolution of music today?

Va-Cay: The evolution of an artist is important. One can grow and change for the better and others, for the worse. But it’s all subjective. I think, once you find your sound and your message, that’s when artists get in a grove and really create their brand. Music is constantly growing and the evolution of music has been great. I can’t wait to see the direction it heads next.

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Va-Cay: I have 100s of other passions. It’s almost overwhelming because once I start something, I’m all in. Passion is 100% needed to be great. Your fans can tell if your heart is in your product.

Upcoming 100: With your current success and working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR, What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

Va-Cay: My advice would be to stay true. Don’t let the popular opinion change you, don’t let going big determine your decisions. Music is your way of expressing yourself and if you think it sounds good, stick with it!

Upcoming 100: Where can potential fans find out more about you?

Va-Cay: Fans can find me on all social media platforms. They can find me on all music platforms, and I have new music coming always . I can’t wait to show them my passion and determination!
