Exclusive Interview with TFT

An exclusive interview with TFT.

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

TFT: We’ve been independent for about four years now since 2014. Music is our life. Our ma was a DJ and she introduced us to hip hop at a early age.

Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I want to do”?

TFT: About the same time we heard hip hop, we were about 5 or 6 years of age, maybe even younger, that’s when we said this is what we are gonna be when we grow up.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

TFT: Knowing this is a platform we can do together and create good music, and also become hip hop legends.

Upcoming 100: Who are on your playlist?

TFT: Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Mick Jenkins, dat new Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, J.I.D, Sheck Wes, and the rest are old school legends such as Nas, Jay Z etc.

Upcoming 100: The single you are currently promoting, “Lenox Ave”, how did the idea for it come about?

TFT: When we heard the beat… It took us a year to come up with a hook but we decided to have no hook and let the sample be the chorus. It’s a Travis Scott sample from his song Maria. In it he’s saying made it to LA finally in LA we’ve never been there. So, we decided to name it Lenox Ave in New York. It’s our way of saying find your road to success.

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

TFT: Being twin artist #1 and to establish a new sound for the East Coast.

Upcoming 100: We listened to “Lenox Ave.” and it’s amazing! We can definitely appreciate your sound and style.  What steps are you taking to preserve and improve your singing style? What are your best practices?

TFT: Nah we don’t sing lol. We don’t have the voice for it but we listen to other artists and try to compete with their sound so we can create something different.

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

TFT: Nah, no other passions but hip hop. Yes we do believe that you have to be passionate with whatever you’re chasing.

Upcoming 100: Working with a renowned PR firm such as Starlight PR and the level of success you have achieved so far, what advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

TFT: Innovate, you gotta do at least something new don’t just follow a trend. Keep creating new music and have murals in the music industry. Know your do’s and don’ts.

Upcoming 100: Where can potential fans find out more about you?
