Jay Park Signs With Roc Nation: 'This Is a Win for Asian Americans'

Late Thursday night (July 20), Roc Nation announced on Twitter that it added Jay Park, a Korean-American hip-hop artist, to its roster.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Park is a popular hip-hop artist in South Korea, where he is the co-CEO of AOMG, an independent record label that manages hip-hop and R&B artists. He is the first Asian-American to sign with Roc Nation, which was founded by JAY-Z in 2008 and manages artists including RihannaDJ Khaled and J.Cole

Over the years, Park has risen to the top of Korea’s hip-hop scene with hits like "Mommae" and "You Know." He’s landed several albums on both the Heatseekers and World Albums charts, with last year’s Everything You Wanted peaking at No. 3 on the latter.

To celebrate the news, the Seattle-born musician took to Instagram and called it a win for Asian Americans and a win for “hard work and dedication,” and promised that he’s “just gettin’ started.”

After starting off as a B-Boy in the States, Park, like several other Asian-Americans, turned to Korea to pursue a career in the music industry. In 2008, he debuted as part of the K-pop group 2PM. After leaving the boy band in 2009, the singer began a solo career as a bilingual contemporary R&B and hip-hop artist.

Hours after sharing his Roc Nation news, Park dropped a new music video for the swaggering “Most Hated,” a collaboration with Korean rapper Dok2.
