Luke Bryan on Becoming a Major Country Star in Billboard Artist Pass

Luke Bryan took Billboard backstage at Michigan’s country music festival Faster Horses in July for our Artist Pass video series.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

The popular country star dished on everything from his earlier beginnings, Nashville callings, and the impact he now has as one of the genre’s biggest acts.

Even though Bryan has reach seven No. 1 spots on the Top Country Albumschart, he explains that the road to success was a long journey starting in high school bands before his dad, who he was working for at the time, convinced him to make music his priority when he said, “If you don’t move to Nashville, I’m going to fire you and force you to move to Nashville.”

Now that Bryan has reached major levels of stardom, he said he owes it all to the fans who “are the true meaning of what’s it all about.” He said, “When I think about the opportunities to have played bars through years and then amphitheaters and football stadiums and watch my fan base grow, I think every little step along the way I’ve never taken them for granted and tried to truly enjoy them for what they are.”

He said, “It just makes you feel good when people are taking your music, applying it to their life, and it’s helping them through the struggles and the ups and downs. At the end of the day I’m just a regular guy that’s been blessed to do music and sometimes you do forget that your music is out there really, really affecting people.”
