Chris Cornell passed away almost three months ago, but his memory lives on in his family. To commemorate his legacy, widow Vicky Cornell is planning a statue of her late husband to be placed somewhere in Seattle, according to an interview with the Seattle Times.
Cornell said she has already contacted sculptor Wayne Toth, the artist behind Johnny Ramone​'s statue at his Hollywood Forever grave in Los Angeles, and that the statue should take seven months to create.
"He has already given me a design and the children and I love it," Cornell said, adding that she and a family friend, Seattle attorney Mark Johnson, would welcome fan input as they work with the city to find a suitable location. "He is Seattle’s son,” she said, “and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support.”
Although Cornell expressed excitement for the project, she did note that she still grieves for her late husband, who she described as "the most patient man I ever met" and someone who "gave 110 percent of himself. There was nothing he would not do for us. If you were his friend, not time nor distance mattered, he was there if you needed him.”
Cornell has also committed $100,000 towards the Chris Cornell Music Therapy Program at the Seattle nonprofit Childhaven, an organization that provides care to abused, neglected and chemically affected children and teaches parents how to properly care for and nurture them.
“Two months still feels like yesterday,” Cornell said. “It is still very recent and I’m sure this will be a process to years, to come to terms with what happened. If that’s ever actually possible...He loved us so much that it's difficult to imagine life without such love, so we are holding on so tight to what we have."
The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman died May 18, 2017, from suicide in his Detroit hotel room.
