Weezer Puts on a Hit-Filled Show to Please Fans Old and New at Meadows Festival

Nineties nostalgics and new fans alike got their fill of angsty rock with Weezer's set at Meadows Festival on Sunday (Sept. 17), during which the quirky quartet played a roster of classics like "Beverly Hills" and "Perfect Situation" alongside fresh tracks off their upcoming eleventh studio album, Pacific Daydream.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

And while the iconic band's members had little words to share with the crowd -- save for an "hola mis amigos" introduction by frontman Rivers Cuomo before launching into their aptly titled Pacific Daydream track "Mexican Fender" -- the lack of banter added a sense of suspense before each new offering.

The set list included everything from a grungy rendition of Outkast's "Hey Ya" to the opening lines of Mike Posner's "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" and Weezer's White Albumtrack "Thank God For Girls," accented by a photo montage featuring Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and other famed female figures. Mid-way through the show, a fan floating trough the crowd on an enormous pizza pool floatie provided the perfect cue for the group's "Feels Like Summer," infusing a fresh dose of sunshine into a city that's just begin preparing for the onset of fall (despite it reaching 80 degrees earlier that afternoon).

Throughout the 75-minute set, an overflowing crowd of festival-goers that pushed toward the fest's outer limits roared along to every word, much to the delight of Cuomo, who put a finger to his lips to leave just the fans singing their beachy hit "Island In The Sun."

Clad in a bright red bomber jacket, plaid tie and black glasses, Cuomo closed out the set with the anthemic "Say It Ain't So" as the sun set over New York -- that is, until he and fellow members Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson came back onstage for an encore performance, a throwback to their 1994 hit "Buddy Holly."

Before Weezer officially exited the stage, the group put the spotlight on the audience one last time, Cuomo holding his entire mic stand toward the sky as the rowdy crowd threw their hands, inflatable beach balls and even streamer-like toilet paper rolls in the air.
