August Alsina Blasts Def Jam Over Album Delays

He called the label "trash" explaining why his upcoming album has been pushed back into 2018.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

August Alsina has been prepping for his third studio album release all year, leaving fans to wonder lately why the project is still on hold. Alsina -- who hasn’t dropped an album since This Thing Called Life in late 2015 -- answered one such inquiry on Twitter Monday (Nov. 13), blaming his label Def Jam for delay.

The 25-year-old artist said the album will be out next year, but if were up to him it would have been much sooner than that.

"I would love to put my album out but DEF JAM is holding it/me hostage because the system is not up & running until next year so they basically dont exist," he wrote replying to a fan. "The label is just TRASH .. I will release free music soon but that has been the hold up. Tell Them to FREE ME & the Album."

The New Orleans native has released four singles in preparation of his album: “Wait,” “Lonely,” “Don’t Matter” and “Drugs.”

Billboard has reached out to Def Jam for comment.
