Gomez began in a white dress in front of a busted car on a smoky stage set in the woods, before backing vocalists emerged from behind the trees to sway and dance with her. Selena looked lost in the performance throughout, emerging dazed from it at song's end as if she forgot that an audience was watching her. To the stage's side, Marshmello manned the drums, while an additional guitarist gave the song more of a yearning texture than it has on record.
Gomez was introduced by her songwriter collaborator Julia Michaels, who called her "one of the most incredible women I know," and billed the performance as Selena's only televised one of the year.
