The Jonas Brothers' Dad Kevin Sr. Is in Remission After Battling Colon Cancer

After being diagnosed with colon cancer last spring, Kevin Jonas Sr. announced that he is in remission.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

In this week’s issue of People, the father of The Jonas Brothers opens up about his emotional journey over the past year, and encourages others to get tested.

Over the past year, Jonas Sr. has received support from all of his sons, telling People that they would send him encouraging texts and calls. “The boys showed me constantly — through texts, phone calls, visits — how much they love me,” Jonas said. He was also the JoBros' original manager when the band began in 2005.

“When I found out about my dad’s diagnosis, it was a balance of hope and real concern and fear,” Nick Jonas said of his father’s illness. “I pray that no one else ever has to go through that.” Joe Jonas added, “A situation like this makes you wake up and appreciate the ones around you.”

The family revealed that they've spent as much time as possible together throughout his Jonas’ treatment, which included chemotherapy and surgery. Eldest brother Kevin Jr. added, “Just spending time together can be the best coping mechanism.”

In December, doctors informed Jonas Sr. that he was in remission. “I want everyone to be tested as early as possible. People’s lives can be saved, but waiting could cost you everything,” Jonas says. “If just one person ends up like me and catches their cancer before it’s life-ending, then I’ve been a part of something good.”
