Ed Sheeran Offers Intimate Performance of 'Perfect' as His Acceptance Speech at 2018 iHeartRadio Awards

In an unconventional setup for an award show performance, pop star Ed Sheeran immediately followed his song of the year win for 2017 smash "Shape of You" at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards with a live performance of his second Divide Hot 100-topper, "Perfect."

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Sheeran accepted the award live from Melbourne, Australia, and after a fairly short speech, quickly strapped on his guitar and handed off his statue. ("They set up so I can play, so I'm gonna play a song for you now if that's all right," he offered to the iHeart crowd.) He performed the ballad acoustic and without accompaniment, while surrounded on all sides by adoring fans.

The performance felt less like an award show performance than a live encore, full of heart-hands and waving arms and singing along practically drowning out Sheeran's own vocal. ("Ed Sheeran seriously has the best fans in the world!" commented presenter Sarah Hyland afterwards -- hard to argue with.)
