Justin Tranter Talks Songwriting Projects With Cardi B, Janelle Monae & Shea Diamond

Last week, Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Halle Berry and more celebs stormed the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles for the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

The ceremony, which featured a performance by Superfruit, a kiss between out Olympians Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy, and a surprise appearance from the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Boys in the Band, is airing Wednesday night (April 18) on Logo at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Billboard caught up songwriter and GLAAD board member Justin Tranter on the red carpet. The gender nonconforming writer, who has penned hit songs for the likes of HalseySelena Gomez and Imagine Dragons, talked about his latest projects with Cardi B and Janelle Monáe.

Tranter was thrilled to be a part of Cardi’s debut studio album Invasion of Privacy. “She is the world right now -- Cardi B is the world,” the writer said. “To get to be a part of her album is so amazing. 'Thru Your Phone' turned out so special and so different from the rest of her album -- it’s just crazy, crazy exciting.”

The prolific songwriter also had nothing but compliments for Janelle Monáe and her new music.

“Janelle Monáe couldn’t get cooler if you paid her -- so cool it hurts my feelings. We met in a session and 'Make Me Feel' was birthed. I think it’s the best-reviewed song I’ve ever been a part of. They also commended the track's video for its 'exciting' bisexual narrative."

Tranter also teased their next big project: trans soul musician (and Tranter's red carpet date) Shea Diamond’s first single of a major label. The track is due at the end of the month.
