Pusha T on Kanye's Political Views: 'I'm Totally Against It'

Pusha T admits he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with Kanye West.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

In the weeks since ‘Ye made supportive comments about Donald Trump, criticized Barack Obama, and talked about so-called voluntary slavery, Pusha says he's faced countless questions about his good friend’s controversial political views.

“They ask me specifically because everybody knows my views in regards to politics, especially for this last year: the Hillary campaign, Obama, justice reform, everything, right?” he said during a recent appearance on The Angie Martinez Show (7:45). “[…] It’s just one of many things we disagree on. We disagree all the time."

Martinez went on to ask Push how he deals with the difference of opinions, especially since he’s the president of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label.

“It’s just a stance that I have. I’m totally against it,” he said at around the 8:40 minute mark in the video above. “To me, the prison reform thing is so dear and near to me, right? It’s something I know we can’t even tackle with Trump. So, there’s nothing I even want to hear in regards to [Trump]—a point of view, anything. I’m cool. We’re at a loss already.”

Push continued: “When the conversation comes up, and [Kanye and I are] engaged in conversation, I just say what it is that I feel, regardless of what it’s about. Other than that, no, I’m not just bringing up political conversations. And he knows not to bring up political conversations with me. It’s just not happening.”

The Virginia Beach rapper said he knows the controversial comments will, undoubtedly, affect Kanye’s music. But not in a negative way.

“I do feel like it affects it in a positive way. Because I do feel like he knows that that's one thing that better not lack.” Pusha T said around the 11:50 mark. “People are, they sniping at you. They sniping and they ready to shoot. And so that's one thing that has always saved him in my opinion. Great music."

Pusha later revealed some interesting details about ‘Ye’s upcoming solo album, due June 1. He said Kanye was “speaking on a lot” in the highly anticipated project, as he was sharing his thoughts on a slew of subjects that are, perhaps, better articulated through his music.

“I feel like it’s better there. Let it live in the music,” Push said.

The rapper also mentioned a possible tour featuring him, Kanye, Nas, Kid Cudi, and Teyana Taylor, all of whom are expected to drop albums produced by ‘Ye in the upcoming month. Pusha will be the first in the collective to drop a project; his highly anticipated third studio album, DAYTONA is set to arrive this Friday.

Just days before the release, Pusha revealed a number of last-minute alterations to the album. He told Martinez why he decided to scrap the project's original King Push name, as well as changes made at Kanye's request. According to Push, 'Ye wasn't pleased with DAYTONA's original cover art, so he changed it early Wednesday morning. Fans may have also noticed a couple of changes to the album's tracklist, which was originally revealed on Kanye's Twitter.

Push explained why the track “Sociopath” was cut, and that “How Do You Respond” was renamed “What Would Meek Do?”
