Speaking about the Trump administrations' "zero tolerance" policy of separating families at the U.S. southern border, Attorney General Jeff Sessions told press in early May, "If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law. If you don't like that, then don't smuggle children over our border." So far, the policy has reportedly separated at least two thousand children from their parents.
Further illustrating his thoughts on the controversial border control measures, Legend followed his tweet to Ryan by retweeting a message from writer Saladin Ahmed that said, "If you think stealing someone’s baby is a reasonable response to them crossing an imaginary line on the ground you are either brainwashed or a horrible person."
Days before the tweet to Sessions, Legend's wife Chrissy Teigen announced that each member of their family would be donating $72,000 to the ACLU on Donald Trump's 72nd birthday in an attempt to defend the families affected by the border policy.
"John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration," Teigen wrote on Twitter. "These actions are cruel, anti-family and go against everything we believe this country should represent."
