MTV Planning to Reboot ‘Daria’ With New Production Unit

According to a new report, Viacom’s MTV is planning a reboot of the popular late 90’s show Daria.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

The reboot will be titled Daria & Jodie and will feature a girl named Jodie who is Daria’s “intellectual equal” according to a CBS News report. The only difference is that Jodie is popular and well liked in contrast to Daria. The reboot will be produced by former Inside Amy Schumer writer Grace Edwards. The original Daria aired on MTV from 1997 to 2002.

“These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race,” according to a statement given to news outlets by MTV.

The reboot will be part of MTV’s new production unit, MTV Studios which will be producing other shows including a Made and Real World reboot, as well as two other reality shows called The Valley and Siesta Key.

Lately, MTV has been bringing back more of their older programming after rebooting Total Request Live better known as TRL less than a year ago. The network also rebooted the hit reality Jersey Shore titled Jersey Shore Family Vacation. The Shore crew will have a second season of the reboot in Las Vegas.
