Ski Mask The Slump God Says Drake 'Actually Liked' XXXTentacion's Music

Before he passed away, XXXTentacion had a complicated history with Drake.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

In early 2017, Drake previewed a song with Giggs called "KMT" that drew immediate criticism from fans who accused him of stealing X's flow on "Look At Me!" Two months later, during an interview with 103.5 The Beat, X fueled the beef by saying, "He is not a man. I think he’s a bitch. That’s a bitch move."

Over time, the hostility calmed after X admitted to stirring up the beef for publicity, but their fans continued to pit the two rappers against each other. On Sunday, however, X's close friend and collaborator Ski Mask The Slump God shared a surprising photo with Drake on Instagram. Before deleting the post, Ski Mask explained that the two spoke about how Drake liked X's music. He wrote, "Positivity is what he wanted, we chopped it up, he actually liked Jahseh music a lot to come to light soon."

In a 2017 interview, Drake said he hadn't heard "Look At Me!" until after he recorded his song, but he did understand why fans noticed similarities.

"The other day I dropped the song with Giggs and I'm seeing all this shit on my IG under some random picture of people being like, 'You took this kid's flow,' or whatever," he explained. "So I'm just like, 'What's happening to me right now?' So I'm trying to read and figure out who they're talking about. Then I find out what song they're talking about. I listened to it and I'm like, 'Okay, I see where people could draw this comparison off of the first two lines, whether it be the cadence or the rap pattern or whatever.' I'm just like, it's crazy that people think after all this time and all I've been through that I'm the type of person to go find this song that's on SoundCloud—it doesn't have like two plays, it has plays, he has a cult following—and go and take that and make it my own. I'm not stupid. I'm not a shitty person like that, you know?"

It's unclear exactly what Ski Mask meant when he wrote "a lot to come to light soon" but it was recently revealed that XXXTentacion had signed a $10 million album deal with Empire for a forthcoming project before he died—so it's possible more music is on the way. According to a report from The New York Times, he had already completed “a significant amount of material” for the album. Due to a clause in X's deal for his second album, however, the earliest it can be released is October.
