How Drake's Notoriety Reportedly Helped Delay City Girls Member J.T.'s Prison Sentence

City Girls' J.T. was reportedly allowed to put off her prison check-in related to felony identity theft charges thanks to a co-sign from Drake.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

In alleged court documents excerpted by the Blast Tuesday, an attorney for J.T.—whose real name is Jatavia Johnson—asked a Florida judge to delay her original surrender date of June 25 by 30 days. The reason, her attorney said, was so she could pursue a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" following a "meteoric rise in stardom." Elsewhere in the motion, the attorney specifically cited a recent co-sign from Drake—with whom she appears on the Scorpion cut "In My Feelings"—and "other noticeable co-signs" from Migos, Cardi B, and more.

Though Johnson was originally facing as long as 10 years in prison for allegedly fraudulent use of three different credit cards in 2016 and 2017, a plea deal got that sentence chopped down to 24 months. The judge ultimately denied the 30-day extension request but agreed to push back Johnson's check-in date form June 25 to June 29, a move the Blast reports is what allowed her to show up at last month’s BET Awards festivities in Los Angeles.

"Did more [than] I thought I could imagine this short period of time out on bond," Johnson said in an Instagram post last month. "Now it’s time for me to knock this down and come back strong forever…hold my baby down y'all."

According to XXL, Johnson turned herself in at the Federal Detention Center in Miami and is set for release Mar. 21, 2020.'

As for "In My Feelings," the track is currently the No. 1 song in the country and looks to stay in that position for some time to come. A video, possibly directed by Karena Evans, is expected to be released soon.
