Brie Larson to Star Alongside Michael B. Jordan in Drama 'Just Mercy'

Variety reports that Brie Larson is in final negotiations to join Michael B. Jordan on the drama Just Mercy.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Jamie Foxx is said to be attached to the project as well. The film is being adapted from the book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, written by Bryan Stevenson.

Just Mercy is a true story based on the life of Stevenson—played by Jordan—as a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization that helps provide legal aid to prisoners who were wronged by the justice system. His case representing a man named Walter McMillian, who has been sentenced to death for a crime he says he didn’t commit, leads Stevenson down a path he never expected.

The book received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Nonfiction in 2015, and the Carnegie Medal for Nonfiction.

Just Mercy reunites Larson with director Destin Cretton. The two worked together on Cretton’s last two feature length films—2013’s Short Term 12, and The Glass Castle in 2017. Details regarding Larson’s role in Just Mercy is unknown at the moment.

Larson’s next two projects, according to her IMDb page, are the relatively little known indie project Captain Marvel, and the upcoming untitled Avengers film where she will reprise her role as Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel. Both of these movies are slated for a 2019 release.
