While accepting the comedy movie category for The Spy Who Dumped Me, Mila Kunis used the opportunity to urge viewers to donate to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. "We are in a little bit of a state of emergency, so you know, and I have this opportunity and I just want to say if you could take a minute to donate to the LAFD Foundation," she said. "It would be really, really great."
Betty Gilpin also urged viewers to donate while presenting alongside Terry Crews. "It is a disaster of staggering magnitude that has touched the lives of many people that we know and work with everyday," she said. "Our hearts are with you and thanks go out to all the firefighters and first responders who are on the front lines." The comments received a round of applause from the audience.
The actress then urged those who would like to donate the text "Red Cross" to 90999 or to visit RedCross.org.
Victoria Beckham addressed the fires while accepting the fashion icon award. "It's amazing to be back here in L.A. receiving this award. I really do consider LA to be my second home, so it's wonderful to be here accepting this award," she said. "Albeit at such a trying time and my heart really does go out to everybody that has been affected by the terrible fires and, can I add, my admiration for the firefighters who are doing such an incredible job."
Melissa McCarthy encouraged viewers to help those affected by the fires while accepting the inaugural icon award. "I'm so incredibly grateful that tonight your collective voice matters," she said. "If you could just do one more thing with your power, because when people come together there's such incredible power in it, please, keep the victims, volunteers and firefighters in your thoughts."
"Any contributions to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation — $1, $10, 50 cents — it will be put to good use and it will make a difference," she continued. "There is great power in this room and everyone who's watching."
The Kardashian family spent the majority of their acceptance speech for best reality show discussing the wildfires. "It's been a really rough week in our home in Calabasas, Hidden Hills and our neighbors in Thousand Oaks and Malibu," began Kim Kardashian, who also mentioned the recent shooting in Thousand Oaks. "Our hearts are broken from the horrific shootings and those who have lost their lives and homes, as well as the hundreds of thousands of us that have been evacuated from the devastating fires that are currently burning."
"As horrible as this has been, it's been amazing to see the resilient spirit of everyone involved and the heroism of those risking their lives on the front lines," she continued. "Action is necessary, so anything that we can do to help — as simple as donating to the many organizations that are collecting supplies — no form of help is too small."
"Our country is stronger when we come together and we cannot face devastation alone. We must continue to reach out and help each other in these trying times," she said.
Kardashian concluded the speech by dedicating the award to all those who have been fighting to keep everyone in California safe. "We would like to dedicate this win to all of the firefighters, the law enforcement and the first responders," she said.
While accepting the competition show award for The Voice, Carson Daly briefly acknowledged the firefighters before continuing his speech alongside Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
Danai Gurira used the acceptance speech for Avengers: Infinity War's win in the best movie category to address those impacted by the fires. "We want to take the moment to dedicate this to the great state of California. The devastation and the turmoil that we are going through right now, that people are going through right now out there, we just want to say we are with you. Our prayers and our thoughts and our hearts are with you," she said.
She then thanked the first responders. "To the first responders, your courage, your bravery, what you do to serve those out there who need you is beyond words. Thank you for what you do," she said.
"To all of us, whatever we can do, please let's put our hearts and our minds to it," she said. Gurira then encouraged viewers to donate whatever they can to the LAFD Foundation.
She concluded the speech by dedicating the award to the firefighters and first responders. "We just want to dedicate this to them and know that we are with you in every way we can be," she said.
The 2018 People's Choice Awards aired live on E! and took place at the Barkar Hangar in Santa Monica.
