El Alfa & Rosalia Score First Top Latin Albums Top 10s

El Alfa and Rosalía land in the top 10 of Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart (dated Nov. 17), with the latter earning her first top 10 and her first chart entry.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

At No. 7, Dominican urban artist El Alfa debuts with El Hombre. Released via El Jefe Records on Nov. 2, the set opens with a little over 2,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Nov. 8, according to Nielsen Music, most of which can be attributed to streams.

It’s the 27-year-old’s first top 10 and second chart entry. The dembow performer previously charted with the eight-song effort Disciplina, which debuted and peaked on the tally dated Sept. 2, 2017, at No. 45, earning 1,000 equivalent album units in its first week.

El Hombre concurrently debuts at No. 6 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart, besting Disciplina’s No. 11 debut and peak in 2017.

The new set’s only song to enter a Latin chart is “Mi Mami” featuring Cardi B, which bullets at No. 9 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart and at No. 7 on Latin Rhythm Digital Song Sales with 2,000 downloads sold on the week ending Nov. 8.

Meanwhile, Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía’s El Mal Querer debuts at No. 10 on Top Latin Albums. The set, released via Sony Music España/ Sony Music Latin on Nov. 2, bows with a little more than 2,000 equivalent album units. Of that figure, nearly 1,000 were in traditional album sales, while the remaining starting sum was largely driven by streaming activity.

“I can’t believe it!” Rosalía tells Billboard over the phone. “I am very, very excited considering the album has a strong flamenco influence. It's music from my roots, music I grew up with, so how can one ask for more! The fact that my music crosses borders, regardless of language, and that the people enjoy it, goes straight to the heart, so I'm really excited with the news you are giving me.”

Notably, it’s the Catalan’s first entry and first top 10 on any Latin chart.

El Mal likewise, lands atop the Latin Pop Albums chart and at No. 2 on the Latin Albums Sales chart.

Rosalía becomes the second act in 2018 to bow at No. 1 on the former tally with a first chart entry. The only other act to debut at No. 1 with his first charted hit? Sebastian Yatra with Mantra (June 2-dated chart).
