‘Black Panther,’ ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ Nominated for Golden Globes

Kicking off the awards season, the nominations of the 76th annual Golden Globe awards were announced, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will include some blockbuster films along with some independent projects in the major categories.

Box office smashes such as Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born will face off against BlacKkKlansman and If Beale Street Could Talk, in the best drama category.

Nominees include John David Washington for his role in BlackKklansman nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category, Regina King in If Beale Street Could Talk is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture and Mahershela Ali in Green Book Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” on the Black Panther soundtrack receives a Best Original Song in a Motion Picture nod, while Barry Jenkins is named for Best Screenplay for If Beale Street Could Talk, Donald Glover in Atlanta is noted as a nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV series – Musical or Comedy.

Vice, a satire about George W. Bush picking Dick Cheney to be his running mate in 2000, leads the pack with the most nominations at six. In the T.V. categories, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story led among TV series with four nominations.
