Michelle Williams Leaves Role on Broadway's 'Once on This Island'

The Tony Award winning production, Once On This Island, made its way to Broadway at the end of November, with Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams playing the role of Erzulie.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

However, two weeks later, the songstress is leaving the show due to doctor's orders.

According to ET, Williams was "advised by her medical doctors to take a leave of absence from performing." Cassondra James, William's understudy, will take on Erzulia until Dec. 26. Then, the role's original actress, Lea Salonga, will star from Dec. 27 through the show's final performance on Jan. 6.

Though no info was given about the doctor's orders, the news comes after Williams checked herself into a mental health facility in July to help her struggle with depression. Just last week, the singer called off her engagement to 40-year-old pastor Chad Johnson.
