In a recent episode of the YouTube influencer's podcast Impaulsive, Paul made the remark as he discussed goals for upcoming months with co-host Mike Majlak and guest, social-media influencer Brother Nature. Majalski and Paul said they were going to be "vegan" and "sober" for January and then speculated on ideas for later months.
Majlak joked that February would be "Fatal February," where "We're gonna go opposite. So day one, steaks, big bottles of Tito's and shit, just wilin' out."
As for the next month, "What is it, male-only March?" Paul joked. "We're gonna attempt to go gay for just one month."
"For one month, and then swing ... and then go back," Majlak responded.
The remark prompted many angry responses on Twitter, where one user wrote, "Logan Paul joking about being gay 'for one month' while countless LGBT+ around the world are killed & committing suicide for their sexuality, is disgusting. He continues to be an awful representation of the YouTube community & shows he truly has learned NOTHING over the last year."
"Dear Logan Paul and any ignorant, hurtful fool, You can’t 'go gay for a month'. Being gay is not a choice. This is an insult to the LGBTQ+ community. Stop this nonsense and stop supporting problematic people," another added.
The incident comes a little over a year after Paul faced major criticism over posting a video in Japan's Aokigahara, known colloquially as the "suicide forest." Paul apologized for the incident and took down the video, but in the aftermath of the incident YouTube removed him from its premium advertising tier Google Preferred and suspended its projects with him; later the platform suspended all ads from the prankster's channel.
In an October cover story in The Hollywood Reporter, Paul expressed shock over the reaction to the Aokigahara incident, saying, "I was so used to people liking me. But being hated? I hate it. I hate being hated!"
Still, Paul challenged that he would ever be "canceled" over his controversial appearances or statements. "Good luck trying to cancel me," he said. "It's so easy for anyone to be like, 'Logan Paul just ended his career, he's done.' But the only person who will ever decide whether that's true is me."
