Royce Da 5'9" Snipes at Kanye West & Wale on New Track 'Field Negro': Listen

09/02/2019 byMichael Saponara

Royce Da 5'9" returned Friday (Feb. 8) with the self-produced song "Field Negro," and he doesn't mince words on the track.

The politically charged single takes aim at systemic racism displayed throughout America's history and even sees Royce taking jabs at some of his hip-hop contemporaries.

The Detroit native gives himself a pat on the back for carving out a lane in rap without relying on certain antics or all the "complaining" he believes Yeezy and Wale have done throughout their careers. "I did it my way without all the complainin'/ And all the whinin' all day like Kanye or Wale/ For the validation of all the bloggers," he raps.

Within the same verse, Royce name-drops Tory Lanez, saying he had no interest in accepting Lanez's open challenge to battle. The pair got tangled in a petty social media back-and-forth but ended up hopping on the phone to find some common ground and a mutual understanding.

"But we are lyrically not on the same level/ I'm scribblin' my killings down and sendin' them out like chain letters/ I'm not here for the crown nor Tory Lanez cheddar/ I'm here for respect or else I'm willin' to take off the belt," the Book of Ryan artist rhymes.

Royce also brings up the NFL's silencing of Colin Kaepernick, Tyga and Drake's hitmaking abilities, rappers abandoning their roots and much more.
