The alternative rock band fronted by Shutoku Mukai of ZAZEN BOYS disbanded in September 2002, performing for the last time on Nov. 30 that year at Sapporo Penny Lane in Hokkaido, Japan.
The four-member group announced its reunion on Friday (Feb. 15), and that it will be performing at the Rising Sun Rock Festival 2019 in Ezo this summer.
Mukai's comment on the band's official website explains how the reunion came about. "I was drunk one day in the beginning of summer 2018," he shares. "And I thought, I want to 'do it' with them again as NUMBER GIRL at Rising. I also thought, 'I want to make money.' I was drunk."
After a few inebriated phone calls, the band got back together. Mukai goes on to say that they want to "do it" a few times, so although nothing appears to be set in stone yet, the band will probably announce more shows when the time comes.
The Rising Sun Rock Festival 2019 in Ezo will take place Aug. 16-17 at the outdoor special site at Tarukawa Wharf of Ishikari Bay New Port in Ishikari, Hokkaido.
The first round of artists on the roster besides NUMBER GIRL features some choice acts, including Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Dohatsuten, King Gnu, Soil & "Pimp" Sessions, and My Hair is Bad.
