'Captain Marvel' Tops U.S. Box Office in Second Weekend

Captain Marvel scored the sixth-highest worldwide debut ever when it opened last weekend, bringing in an impressive $455 million overall.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Variety reports that Marvel's newest entry has topped the U.S. box office for the second-straight weekend, grossing a respectable $69 million. As Forbes points out, this is a 55 percent drop from its $153 million domestic debut.

The overseas gross for the film has now reached $494 million, bringing the total worldwide gross to $760 million after being in theaters for 10 days. With over $266 million at the domestic box office, the movie has grossed more in its first 10 days than Thor: The Dark World, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Doctor Strange, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

There's still a chance that Captain Marvel could gross more in the U.S. overall than Captain America: The First Avenger, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. However, it would need to total over $436 million in the States to do so. It's currently the 11th-highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe worldwide, trailing just behind Guardians of the Galaxy's $773 million
