Lena Waithe Signs on for Season 3 of 'Westworld'

Lena Waithe will join the third season of Westworld.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

The series—which follows the stories of androids and people existing in intricate parks where rich patrons can act out fantasies in various old world locations—is heading into its third season and pulling parts of its cast from other prestige television. Waithe joins the other announced new cast member, Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul

Waithe previously worked on Aziz Ansari's Netflix comedy Master of None. Her work as an actress and writer on that series netted her an Emmy for that show's "Thanksgiving" episode, which was largely based on Waithe coming out to her own family. Since the win, Waithe has taken the helm of the BET series Boomerang. Her Showtime series, The Chi, is currently in its second season.

Beyond television, Waithe has at least started considering a future in politics

“I wouldn’t count anything out,” she told Good Morning America. “I really do love this business that I’m in right now. But I also have a skill for talking to people, listening to people, that’s my job to try and capture human behavior...I’m also a person who believes everyone deserves life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. What more could you want out of a politician?”

Waithe admitted that she has higher priorities, but sees the Oval Office as something within reach.

“Right now, I’m just trying to focus on being a mogul first, then we’ll see what happens," she said. "If Trump can be President, anyone can.”

Westworld isn't expected to return until 2020.
