On Thursday (Aug. 25) rising electronic and R&B duo BC Kingdom will kick off Marc Jacobs’ Music Marc Concert Series at the designer’s Los Angeles boutique.
The L.A.-based group will premiere tracks from their debut EP, BuckWildNite, including the song “Hype Williams,” named after the music video director who frequently collaborates with Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Pharell and Jamie Foxx. According to member Zou, 26, the song touches on the spontaneous nature of going out that “represents millennial, underground culture and a generation that's consumed with narcissism and perfection.”
The pair's musical palette was inspired by watching MTV, exposing them to rock 'n' roll, pop and soul and eventually leading to their mysterious, dreamy and dark sound. “Marc Jacobs has always represented the progression of youth culture as well as highlighting his infatuation with the street, and his brand has influenced music and fashion,” said Logan, 27.
And as for their favorite piece by the illustrious fashion designer? A 2005 black T-shirt with rapper Lil' Kim’s face on the front and "Marc Jacobs hearts Lil' Kim" in white and pink on the back.
If you’re in Los Angeles, check out the debut Music Marc event at 8400 Melrose Place from 7-10 p.m. PT, and in the meantime, stream their new song exclusively on SoundCloud below:
