Donald Glover's 'Atlanta' Already Renewed for Second Season

Donald Glover as Earnest Marks on Atlanta “Streets On Lock."

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

If you were hooked with what FX’s new show Atlanta has had to offer so far then prepare yourself for even more. The basic cable network made its decision to renew the comedy after only airing three episodes so far to record-breaking ratings and critical acclaim.

The comedy, starring Donald Glover (Childish Gambino, Community), will get a 10-episode sophomore season compared to its current nine-episode season. Atlanta was renewed alongside fellow FX newcomer Better Things.

“It’s really gratifying to launch two new comedies that have received overwhelming critical acclaim right out of the gate and that are emblematic of FX’s award-winning brand,” said Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.

The series follows Earn (Glover) and his life in Atlanta where he attempts to redeem himself to his loved ones after dropping out of Princeton. Earn and his cousin Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles ultimately work their way through the music scene in Atlanta to improve their lives.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series ended up becoming the best premiere of any basic cable primetime scripted debut in more than three years among the adults 18-49 demographic and the most watched telecast of a new comedy series in adults 18-49 since April 2014.

“It is clear to us that Atlanta and Better Things have struck a nerve with viewers, which is a credit to Donald Glover’s vision for Atlanta and Pamela Adlon’s vision for Better Things. They, along with their spectacular casts, writers and directors, have created exceptional shows that we are incredibly proud to produce.”
