JAY IDK SHUTS DOWN D.C. IN SOLD-OUT, HEADLINING PERFORMANCE

Last night (10/18), Washington D.C. experienced one of the more memorable shows they’ll have this year with Jay IDK’s headlining show at the classic hometown venue U Street Music Hall.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

In support of his recently released project Empty Bank, Jay managed to sell out the venue with the die hard HXLY Tribe reciting every word. Before he took the stage and closed out the show, the talented lyricist brought along some promising up and coming artists from his area to bridge the gap and unite the city. Those artists include Mista Selects, Nappy Nappa, Innanet James, Will The Rapper and the buzzing Big Flock. “For me I just wanted unity,” Jay told us following the event. “And that’s what we got. Mad love!”

After the opening acts wrapped up, the crowd flooded to the front of U Street Music Hall, anticipating the arrival of their hometown hero. As the lights dimmed and the music shut off, Jay took the stage putting the crowd in an uproar.

Playing select cuts from his new project Empty Bank, paying homage and showing love to DC’s classic Go Go music by inviting fans on stage to dance, as well as bringing out fellow hometown favorites Rico Nasty and Chaz French for memorable performances, Jay IDK delivered tenfold during his headlining show.

With some surefire hits in the catalog such as “Two Hoes,” “The Plug,” and “God Said Trap,” Jay gave fans a good mix of the old and the new. Whatever it was, the loyal attendees seemed to know every single word.

Immediately after the show, fans flooded the merch table for a meet and greet with Jay where pictures and autographs were aplenty. Despite a long night, the Maryland born lyricist made sure to stay for each and every fan to personally thank them for their support.

We got a chance to chat with Jay after his show about the milestone experience of headlining U Street, the scene in D.C. and how he feels about it, his work ethic in the studio, and what’s next on his plate.

See the full interview below as well as some shots from the concert. Also cop Empty Bank HERE if you’re still behind.
