THE WEEKND KICKS OFF ‘STARBOY: LEGEND OF THE FALL TOUR’

It has begun.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

On Friday (Feb. 17), The Weeknd launched his “Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour” in Stockholm, Sweden with a hit-filled parade and a visual spectacle.

Much of the aesthetic delight came from a futuristic set design, crafted by Es Devlin, who’s worked with Kanye West and Beyoncé. Featuring a large, illuminated spacecraft as its backdrop, the show also included a long runway for the Starboy to walk up and down on.

This is something Abel teased back in December, when he revealed Yeezy’s influence on his new jaunt. “Look at Kanye’s [‘Saint Pablo Tour’] shows,” he told Billboard. “He changed the game. We’re looking at floor seats differently now in arena shows. I want to animate the space like that on this tour.”

After an opening set from Lil Uzi Vert, that’s exactly what The Weeknd did. Walking up stairs and into a smoky runway, the Canadian crooner ran through his catalog of hits. Wearing a blue jacket over an all-black outfit, he performed favorites like “House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls,” “High for This,” “Earned It,” and “The Hills.”

But the set list also featured songs off his latest chart-topping album Starboy, including “Secrets,” “Stargirl Interlude,” “Sidewalks,” “False Alarm,” “Party Monster,” and “Six Feet Under.”

Afterwards, all Abel could say was that the show was “pretty fucking crazy.” And he’s just getting started. The “Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour” is slated to continue through Europe before hitting North America on April 25 in Vancouver.
