HEADS UP, PRODUCERS: CALVIN HARRIS DETAILED HOW HE MADE “SLIDE”

Watch the video below.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

We at the DopeHouse are in collective agreement that Calvin Harris’ “Slide,” which features Frank Ocean and Migos (minus Takeoff), is easily one of the best songs of the year so far. The song is a return to Harris’ disco-centric sound, it’s catchy as hell and it gets a couple artists we enjoy over a beat we’ve never heard them on before.
Though the main piano progression might not be the most difficult set of chords to learn how to play (I went to the Hawks game on Saturday and the DJ, the best arena DJ in all of sports, played it once or twice on the synth), there are tons of layers that add to the overall vibrant, bouncy energy of the song that you don’t hear until they’re brought to your attention.
Sunday afternoon, Harris shared a video of how he made different sections of the beat, from the bassline to the varying synthesizers and drums to Ocean’s vocals. It’s always nice, if you’re a producer, to see how a massive Harris pieces together his sounds.
