Artist Sulay Promises Not to Disappoint: “I Want to be Heard”

Los Angeles – Up and coming artist Sulay is only 21 years old, but with a sound that is breaking barriers and making waves, he’s ready for the world to take notice.

Based out of Los Angeles, the young star is a rookie to the music scene, having only begun creating music a few years ago. But in the short time he’s been performing, he’s already captured the attention of many. His melodic rap is inspired by the sounds of artists like Playboi Carti and Russ, and has a “wavey” sound to it. “It’s got a wavey feel to it,” he explains, “It’s almost sung rap, but not quite. It’s slow, melodious sounds.”

For Sulay, music inspires a feeling of motivation in him. “It was an alternative to working until you die,” says the artist in opposition of a tradition nine-to-five kind of gig. “I had ambitions, and people were listening and I felt a connection with fans.” Hearing his completed songs give him the push he needs to continue. “When it’s finally finished, having that feeling of a complete song and having people listen to it… It’s inspiring.”

Inspiring, indeed. For all of the attention he’s captured, you’d think it would have created an ego in the artist, but he remains humble and grateful for those listening to his music. “I do it for the people. I hope one day they’re inspired by it,” he confesses, suggesting that his goal is to become the standard by which all other rappers compare themselves to, much like he feels about the big, iconic musicians in the industry. His attitude isn’t the only thing that makes him different from other artists; his sound is also unique. He touts the producers he works with for giving him a “twang.” Says Sulay, “They have a special twang about them, a certain personality. If it weren’t for the producers I work with, I wouldn’t have a sound.” He laughs, “I have to give them their credit.”

The artist has been busy making music for his eager fans. His self-titled project, The Sulay EP is set to drop later this month. The EP goes through the progression of relationships with songs like “You and I,” “Winter” and “Heaven,” fans can expect a laid back and vibey sound and meaningful lyricism. Another un-named project will also drop later this month, which was a collaboration between Sulay and the producer OG Abi. His most noteworthy song, “Porsche & Maserati,” has garnered over 6,000 listens on SoundCloud and 4,000 on YouTube, and the views and streams are still climbing. “It’s my most anticipated song, I’m known for it.”

You’ll want to keep an eye on Sulay, he’s bound for big things.
