ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA—Jels Quiah is one of the hardest working underground artists in the music industry to date. On June 21st, he’ll release his first major project titled “Show Me You Kare” or “SMYK.” The talented singer says he is looking forward to its release and promises it won’t disappoint fans.
“I’m just talking about my everyday life when it comes to relationships, finances, education, etc. This project will include eight new tracks,” stated Quiah. “I’m really stoked about this project. I’ve put a lot of hard work into it. It’s taken a year to put it together because I’m also going to school fulltime.”
Quiah is currently a student at St. Cloud State University where he is majoring in mass communication. When he’s not studying, he’s obviously making music. He says it’s in his blood, and he won’t stop until he reaches the top—so Jay-Z and Kayne, watch out! You’ve got some new competition.
“I see me as becoming a mogul one day. I really see me being more than just a musician,” he stated. “I want to own businesses, record labels—things like that. I also want to be in the movies or televisions. I also want to do a lot and give back to my people here at home and over in Liberia.”
Quiah was not born in the United States. He and his mother moved to Philadelphia when he was just 5-years-old to escape the civil war destroying his homeland and killing innocent people.
“My mom was happy that she and I came over to the United States. However, it was tough and we struggled. Money was tight, and it was a struggle,” he said. “In fact, even at a young age I would sell water during the summer just to make some extra cash.”
Despite the obstacles Quiah faced while growing up, he doesn’t regret the experience. He says it only made him that much stronger and proved to him that you can do anything you set your mind to.
“I’ve really admired artists like Chris Brown, Michael Jackson and Usher. They’ve had their own hardships and overcame them,” he explained. “I admire their talents and hope to achieve the same level of success as they have. So far, I believe I’m on the right track.”
