Exclusive Interview with Evan Michael Green

An exclusive interview with Evan Michael Green

Upcoming 100: How long have you been in the music industry and has music always been a part of your life?

Evan Michael Green: Music has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started doing piano recitals and plays when I was in elementary school and since then I’ve been addicted to performing.

Upcoming 100: Was there a specific moment in your life when you thought, “Music is what I want to do”?

Evan Michael Green: When I was 7 years old, I saw Carlos Santana live in concert and from that moment on I knew that I wanted to have a career in music. I’ll never forget that night.

Upcoming 100: What inspires you (or your music)?

Evan Michael Green: Stories inspire myself and the music. There are so many stories to tell in life and there are a million different ways to tell them. I’m blessed to have the ability of telling my stories through music.

Upcoming 100: Who’s on your iTunes playlist?’

Evan Michael Green: Practically everybody. I enjoy listening to music just as much if not more than creating it so chances are if you name someone, I have it.

Upcoming 100: What’s your single “Good Chick” all about?

Evan Michael Green: Good chick is about the realization that what you want isn’t necessarily what you need. The character in the song has reached a point in his life where he’s ready to grow up and be with a strong woman who can elevate him as opposed to playing the field and ending up with nothing at the end.

Upcoming 100: What’s the inspiration behind the creation of your EP “Growing Pains”?

Evan Michael Green: Growing Pains is a chapter in my life that I wanted to document through my music. I moved to Los Angeles in 2017 and it was a crazy ride that only music could describe. Most if not all the songs on this project are direct experiences I’ve had since moving to the west coast.

Upcoming 100: There are thousands of artists trying to do what you are doing, what do you think gives you an advantage to break into mainstream America?

Evan Michael Green: Of all the qualities that I have I believe the two that have gotten me the farthest in my career are my work ethic and resilience. Those two things will allow anyone at any talent level to cut through all the noise.

Upcoming 100: What are your thoughts on the evolution of artists and music today?

Evan Michael Green: I love that we’re in a time where music is all over the place. The amount of genre bending these days makes for an almost endless amount of opportunity for creation. You don’t have to be just one kind of artist and for someone like me, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Upcoming 100: Do you have other passions in life? Do you believe passion is an essential part of success?

Evan Michael Green: I have a passion for building things. All throughout high school and college I was into business and building companies and groups of people. This passion led me to start my own record label in Ten Sixty Seven. I do believe passion is one of the most important parts of success. Lack of passion leads to complacency and ultimately failure.

Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in his or her career who doesn't even have a studio to record but would love to do what you are doing now?

Evan Michael Green: Build a village of like minded people around you who want to do the same things. The key to my success has and always will be the people around me.

Upcoming 100: Where can potential fans find out more about you?

Evan Michael Green: I’m all over social media.
