Exclusive Interview with Terrence Paul

Upcoming 100: How do you stay inspired and motivated throughout your creative journey?
Terrence Paul:
I have been told I have a Colorful Personality and I feel inspiration when I wake up each day. I hear “Personal Melodies” in my Head from what the day presents to me and what I expect of the Day within it’s Season of that year. Examples are Happy Fresh idealistic vibes for Spring, Exciting Fun Adventure for Summer, (My Favorite season) Warm Colors , Idealistic Melodies for Autumn & Personal Improving life,    future vibes for Winter

Upcoming 100: Can you share some insights into your creative process when it comes to producing and arranging your music?
Terrence Paul: To Me, each Composition I write has a certain appeal to it and what I feel from it as I search for It’s inner soul. Not forgetting the current Trend I always start with a melody in my head and work around it to see what mood I get from it.

Upcoming 100: How do you collaborate with other artists or producers, and what do you look for in a collaborative partnership?
Terrence Paul: As I did with the Selection you are choosing “1991 Terminated Youth “, I write the Music or the Rhythm Track and the Partner does the Vocal or Rap. I incorporate melodic melodies into the rhythm track to give my partner some inspiration so I used an “Old Skool Nu Jack Swing” with an Acoustic Bass . Terminated Youth was a 50/50 vibe with adding ad lib Vocals later. My partner and I just express each of our crafts like a puzzle and put it all together. I may also add and inject color and ideas over a Bass line written by the Partner as I did with Paisley Park Artist “Taja Sevelle” ( ‘87 paisley park / prince ) “ Mama 16 “.

Upcoming 100: How do you handle the business side of the music industry, such as contracts, royalties, and marketing?x
Terrence Paul: That’s a great question. I would have to hire a music attorney or a knowledgeable Indie to help me understand what is best for my interests for the market has changed & changing so much.

Upcoming 100: How do you balance your personal life with your music career, and what self-care practices do you employ to maintain your mental and emotional well-being?
Terrence Paul: Having a clear mind and not escaping reality at all times & appreciation of Life itself to care for one’s being so that I may be able to write my Music at a chosen time, focusing on what is good for life and not bad for my health or soul…

Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about a challenging moment in your career and how you overcame it?
Terrence Paul:
Well, Young in the Music world the Band I was with disbanded and I was 1000 Miles from home and had to sell most of my gear to get home. Learning from that experience I realized now that “all that glitters is not gold” and always have an exit plan to get home safely if the “Road “ turns into a dead end !!

Upcoming 100: How do you incorporate your personal experiences and emotions into your music, and what themes or messages do you often explore in your lyrics?
Terrence Paul: The Featured Song “1991 Terminated Youth “was pretty much a non-fiction story that was happening less than 100 yards from my home during the “Crack “drug epidemic of that time in 1991. I naturally survived that period to write a song about it. Other personal experiences were growing up in a happier time with the love for the Piano and Melodies constantly coming whenever I look at a Piano all of my life, and it has not diminished. My Mom was a Pianist and when she passed away I have her Piano in my home which inspires me daily. I wrote all of my Spotify Library with Inspiration from that Piano since 2010.

Upcoming 100: How do you stay current with trends and developments in the music industry, and how do you adapt your work accordingly?
Terrence Paul:
Yes, you must stay current with all Trends ! My Melodies are my personal Melodies and I incorporate them into current arrangements and trends with what I feel is my personal flair …

Upcoming 100: How do you handle criticism and negative reviews, and what role does constructive feedback play in your growth as an artist?
Terrence Paul: You learn from your Critics!! Take anything in because it’s associated with the current trends!! Learn and improve or get left behind …

Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey in the music industry?
Terrence Paul:
My Favorite Question thank you!!! Be Original and don’t copy your favorite or other artists!! You were born Original so don’t die being a copy. Be an Originator and not an Emulator. Go only with the Trends of the time because what Is in is In! Do your thing but don’t copy your favorite artist or current artists. Be Creative and Original!!!
