Exclusive Interview with Ricardo Singhh

Upcoming 100: What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and how did you discover your passion for it?
Ricardo Singhh: 
The music was and is really an organic/innate occurrence for me. I didn’t choose the music, the music chose me.
 
Upcoming 100: Could you describe your creative process when writing and producing songs? How do you come up with unique ideas and themes for your music?
Ricardo Singhh: 
For me it’s the rhythm that tells me what flow will fit it. So in a nutshell, listening to the beat. Then coming up with the hook that the rhythm says will fit. In other  words the rhythm speaks to me, then the verses follows

Upcoming 100: How would you define your unique sound or style, and how has it evolved over time?
Ricardo Singhh: 
My sound is a mixture of Dancehall/Reggae, coupled with a dash of world music. My vocals have gotten deeper over the years, allowing for a more noticeable change in my flow when I hit the highs and lows.
 
Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about your most memorable performance or concert experience, and what made it special?
Ricardo Singhh: Well I have just started back in the music over the last five years, once my military service was over. So I have been just recording and producing, no live performances as yet.

Upcoming 100: How do you handle criticism or negative feedback regarding your music, and how do you use it to grow as an artist?
Ricardo Singhh: I don’t believe that there’s any such thing as a negative critique, in music. For someone to critique your music, they would have had to listen to it. So any thing they have say can only make the music better.

Upcoming 100: As a music artist, how do you balance your personal life with the demands of your career, and how do you maintain your mental and emotional well-being?
Ricardo Singhh: I’m a disabled Veteran from the United States Army. Music has always been my escape and therapy for anything that ails me. And a safe heaven to express myself. Be it my fear, anger, being depressed, or expressing happiness. Without having to worry if I’m inconveniencing someone else.

Upcoming 100: What role does collaboration play in your music, and how do you select the people you work with?
Ricardo Singhh: Collaboration is an tool, that enables you the Artis, to reach new genres, and new audiences. I like to be in the studio with my collaborators, that way I can get a better read on our chemistry, or lack of chemistry. Chemistry is very important for a successful collaboration.

Upcoming 100: How do you stay connected with your fans and ensure that you're meeting their expectations while also staying true to yourself as an artist?
Ricardo Singhh: Well for me, staying true to your fans. Is staying true to your artistry, there’s no difference between the two.

Upcoming 100: What challenges have you faced in the music industry, and how have you overcome them?
Ricardo Singhh: Getting my music distributed on the right platforms. Which I’m working on as we speak.

Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey in the industry?
Ricardo Singhh: Staying true to your music, having fun with your music. But always be ready to work outside of your comfort zone. Never stop doing the work (writing/recording), never stop trying to evolve as an artist
