Exclusive Interview with Genesis Baaby

Upcoming 100: What inspired you to become a music artist, and how did you discover your passion for creating music?

Genesis BaabyGrowing up music was always part of life, between watching my grandparent’s gospel group that included my mom and aunties singing all over the country, and my dad playing the guitar for his jazz band made me wonder if I could do it to, but it wasn’t until I entered the studio for the first time at 16 that I felt I could do this forever.

Upcoming 100: Can you describe your creative process when it comes to writing and producing songs?

Genesis Baaby: My creative process when it comes to writing and producing my music i think is kind of different because although I sing I write my music as if I was sitting a rap or a poem and after I get the lyrics and my cadence i figure out the best way to sing it, but most importantly I have to feel the music,

Upcoming 100: What kind of music do you primarily create, and how would you categorize your unique sound or style?

Genesis Baaby: The music I primarily create is music for music lovers, for the people. I don’t trap myself in a creative box so none of my songs sound like the last.

Upcoming 100: Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your own artistic development?

Genesis Baaby: some of my biggest musical influences are “Ty Dolla $ign”, “Don Toliver” and “Chris Brown”. They have all had a great impact on my artistic journey because they all showed my that it’s ok to take it there, I used to hold back on my lyrics and try to watch what I say because I wondered what folks would think of me. They showed me that I can say what I want and that its ok to take it there with no regrets.

Upcoming 100: Tell us about your journey in the music industry so far – any challenges you've faced and how you overcame them.

Genesis Baaby: My journey in the music industry has been a roller coaster, I’ve performed in many states, and even had some television airing time overseas in Italy, but it’s still been very challenging reaching that next milestone that next level up but I’m pushing forward nonetheless and continuing to strive and grow to be the best so when that time comes I’m ready.

Upcoming 100: How do you balance your personal life with your music career, and how do you maintain your mental and emotional well-being?

Genesis Baaby: the balance between life and my career has been tough because life never stops lifing. After loosing my dad in 2020 I went into a really bad depression phase, nothing seemed real or even worth it anymore for a while. My daughter was born in 2022 and she gave me life and a new purpose. So to maintain my mental and emotional wellbeing I’ve just been trying to stay busy weather it’s working my 9 to 5 at Thornton’s, exercising or just playing around with my daughter. And I’ve also found it super helpful to just talk about how I’m feeling which has always been hard for me. I think it’s important to let it out.

Upcoming 100: How do you stay current with music trends and ensure your music remains relevant in today's competitive industry?

Genesis Baaby: believe it or not I still listen to the radio sometimes to stay current with music trends (lol). Honestly I’m still trying to build real relevance but I’m coming.

Upcoming 100: What role does collaboration play in your artistic growth, and have you collaborated with any other artists or producers?

Genesis Baaby: I love collaborating with other artists and producers because I feel working with others brings something out of you that couldn’t have been done alone. Although I’ve only worked with a handful of artists and producers like “Kodeine Metro” “Slim Doja” “Keith Band$”, and D.Smith just to name a few, we created some special projects and built lifetime bonds.  I can’t wait to see who I’ll collaborate with in the future.

Upcoming 100: Can you share any upcoming projects or releases that fans can look forward to?

Genesis Baaby: I’m currently working on the release of my new clothing brand “Lash Out Mode” as well as artist merch for my supporters. Also I plan to release a new single that I have high hopes for called “Hands On You”. A high energetic perfect blend of R&B and pop produced by Kodeine Metro.

Upcoming 100: How do you engage with your fan base and build a loyal following? What's your approach to social media and connecting with fans?

Genesis Baaby: I engage with my fan base by going live on social media networks, talking and responding to them when they message or comment on something and I make posts letting them know how much I appreciate there support.

Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey in the music industry?

Genesis Baaby: For aspiring musicians the best advice I can give it to be patient it’s a journey not a race.

Upcoming 100: Lastly, what message do you want to convey through your music, and how do you hope it impacts your listeners?

Genesis Baaby: the message I want to convey through my music is to be yourself, and never stop going for what you want it’s ok be hurt but don’t stay hurt or wait on nobody to kiss your boo-boo, your already great but you have to believe it before you can expect anyone else to.
