HAIM talks new album "I Quit," Glastonbury adventures, and rebellious youth on "Sidetracked"

Awardwinning sister trio HAIM recently sat down with Nick Grimshaw for the BBC Sounds podcast "Sidetracked with Annie and Nick," offering fans a nostalgic and candid glimpse into their lives, their upcoming music, and their past escapades.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

The episode, inspired by their new single "Take Me Back," delves into the band's rebellious teenage years and their deep connection to Glastonbury Festival.

The conversation quickly turned to their highly anticipated fourth studio album, "I Quit," set for release on June 20th. The sisters revealed the unique inspiration behind the album's intriguing title. "There’s this film called 'That Thing You Do,' a movie about a one-hit wonder band in the 1960s," HAIM explained, "at the very end is a man named Jimmy and he’s at the recording studio and the big task is to record a second single… and Jimmy gets on the mic and he goes ‘I Quit, I Quit...’ Peppy and Snappy. So growing up checking mics, we’d always go ‘I Quit.’"

Nostalgia permeated the chat as the band recounted stories from their youth. Danielle shared a hilarious anecdote about her one and only attempt at sneaking out on a school night, only to be foiled by a persistent chain-call from her sister Este. "I feel my phone vibrating, I look down it says 'Dad'... It's chain-calling... We went outside and concocted a lie... the 30th time it calls, we answer and it’s... ESTE," Danielle recounted with a laugh.

The sisters, known for their love of Glastonbury, also reminisced about their favorite moments at the iconic festival, including a memorable incident where Alana got completely lost for four hours. "I have a problem in this family, where I get lost… I ended up in block nine, on the complete other side of the festival," Alana confessed.

Before hitting the stage, the trio revealed their current pump-up music includes new tracks from Addison Rae, with whom they've even shared a dance.

Fans can catch the full conversation on "Sidetracked with Annie and Nick," available every Thursday on BBC Sounds.
