While the world frantically prepares for the holidays, True Istina is in a state of excitement all her own. With a new video coming out for her single, “For Fun,” in January, these days are filled with reviewing drafts and preparing for the celebrations ahead.

When she isn’t preparing for a major musical release, the artist lives a life more usual for a teenager. A typical day for the sixteen-year-old includes school, choir practice, and homework. When she finds time away from her daily schedule, True Istina loves to escape outdoors for inspiration; nature moves the artist and helps her compose her thoughts in seclusion from the world.

The artist’s writing process is as versatile as the topics she covers. “Sometimes I come up with melody first; other times it flows together and the song is done by itself. I write at night because it’s the most peaceful and I can think about what I’m feeling and what happened during the day. I look at life and what’s happening in the moment.” 

“I tend to make little demos for songs with other instruments and see what works with what I’m singing or harmonizing. Other times I’ll work with producers. I love to see what works and what doesn’t. It’s a chance to be creative and put out the sound I want.”

True Istina isn’t just a talented songwriter—she’s a performer at heart as well. “As a singer, I love performing and being on stage and in front of an audience—the lights, the cameras. As a songwriter, my true love is the studio and being able to showcase a story.”

The artist is proud of herself for putting her music out there. “I’ve always been known as a singer. Songwriting was an outlet to relieve stress and help myself. I didn’t expect to put my music out there, but I’m doing it to help someone else. Music has helped me so much to handle situations and heal and grow—I want to help someone else and be what they need in the moment.”

“There are two sides in my music and in my own life. It relates to every person out there—there is no age limit, gender limit, genre of music. I hope there is one song that really connects with every person.”

True Istina’s moniker is also a meaning she stands behind dutifully. Meaning “true truth,” the artist’s name represents the type of music she writes. “My songs are my truth, my stories, my experiences, the experiences of people around me. I share my and their stories.”

Wise beyond her years, True Istina recognizes the importance of taking time for herself. In the world of social media, she acknowledges that the comments and opinions of others can take a toll. “I take time for myself and remind myself of why I started doing this. It’s for other people, not fame, not the money. I want to help others with the lyrics I’m writing.”

2022 is already looking promising for the young rising artist. The year will kick off with the release of her single, “New Life,” on January 1, 2022, followed by “Walking the Line” on January 22. “Fantasy” comes out on February 14, and her full album will hit the market on March 3.
