Los Angeles/Las Vegas artist Michelle Ann Owens releases her latest single, “Enough” — a funk-rock anthem of empowerment and self-worth that serves as both a declaration and a wake up call toward healing. Intentionally released October 16 to coincide with PurpleThursday for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the track anchors her forthcoming EP of the same name and marks a bold new chapter ahead of her full-length album, Chapter Vegas, due later this year.

“It’s about reclaiming your personal power, about getting yourself out of toxic situations — physical, verbal, and emotional — finally putting your foot down, and having the courage to do it” says Owens.

From the very first seconds, “Enough” establishes its urgent attitude — a gritty, syncopated guitar riff locks in with a tight bassline and punchy live drums, immediately channeling a retro-funk groove with rock swagger. There’s warmth in the track, with thick low-end and just enough reverb to make it breathe before Owens’ voice cuts in with authority. Her delivery is soulful and defiant, with phrasing that’s equal parts raw and rhythmic, setting the tone for the empowerment anthem that follows.

Musically, the song fuses funk, rock, soul, and pop in a way that feels nostalgic. The groove is driven by guitars, tight rhythm work, and bold horn arrangements, all balanced by Owens’ signature retro-modern polish. The arrangement unfolds dynamically with horn stabs, layered harmonies, and rhythmic flourishes building momentum as the track pushes toward its explosive hook.

“I’ve always wanted to do a project with horns, so that’s what Chapter Vegas is focused on” adds Owens.

Lyrically, “Enough” is catharsis turned into song. Owens takes on the voice of someone reclaiming their strength after abuse — owning the pain, but refusing to stay in it. “I won’t take this sh*t no more / Got up off the floor,” she sings with conviction. The repeated refrain — “I’ve had enough” — lands with the weight of self-liberation, transforming the hook into a mantra of survival.

“I don’t want this song to be a downer or too heavy, but to be inspiring. A toxic relationship can be a tough cycle to get out of, but the song reminds us that we don’t owe anyone our peace ,” shares Owens.

To bring this vision to life, Owens teamed up with guitarist and producer Michael “Fish” Herring (Christina Aguilera, Tupac, Backstreet Boys) for music production that highlights both her vocal fire and her live band sensibility.

“I usually self-produce all my stuff, but this one was different,” she said. “I had the song already written, but it didn’t seem like a logical fit for the Chapter Vegas project. I asked Fish to produce the song in a way so that it would fit in with the rest of the songs for the album, and he added a rock edge that knocked it out of the park. I’m so happy with how it came out.”

The song’s live feel is anchored by a powerhouse lineup: Curt Bisquera (Elton John, Seal) on drums, Brandon Rose (Marcus Miller, Ledisi) on bass, and Ric’key Pageot (Madonna, Christina Aguilera) on keys. Dave Richardson (Kenny Loggins, Cirque du Soleil’s KA, Rock of Ages) arranged the horn section, giving the track its soulful punch and signature dynamic finish. Owens handled her own vocal production, emphasizing emotional textures, and capturing both vulnerability and strength in every take.

Owens describes her music as “funky” and “retro-modern,” blending influences from her musical upbringing—Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang, Prince, and The Jacksons—into something distinctly her own. “Because of all my influences, it’s hard to put my music into one word,” she said. “But if I had to—it’s funky.”

Her forthcoming EP, Enough builds toward her Chapter Vegas LP in November. The upcoming record represents a creative shift inspired by her recent move from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, where a new community of horn players and live musicians reignited her sound.

“On ‘Enough,’ a lot of this was a nod to my original band Lady Fox,” she explained. “People who know that project will hear the similarities, but this has been taken up a notch—especially with the horns.”

The music video for “Enough,” directed and produced by Kenneth Williams of Top Floor Productions, premieres alongside the single on YouTube. Featuring a narrative performance by two actors, the video mirrors the song’s emotional arc — from tension and pain to empowerment and release.

Owens performs as a featured vocalist on Friday, October 17, with David Perrico and The Raiders House Band at The Smith Center in Las Vegas, with additional live appearances and releases TBA in both LA and Vegas. Fans of funk-rock, soulful pop, and empowering female vocalists will find plenty to look forward to as Owens continues her musical journey.

With its confident groove, fearless lyrics, and powerhouse performance, “Enough” isn’t just a song — it’s a declaration of strength. The single is streaming now on all major platforms, accompanied by its compelling new music video on YouTube.
