TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Do you want it Flashy? Maybe a little bit trashy? NFL Rekko is pushing to present all that and more with current hits and an upcoming album that will be a memorial to his brother who was killed in 2019.
“NFL Rekko is for Never Forget Loyalty,” Rekko said. “Loyalty out values everything. Rekko is spelled Rekko because I’m double k which means cutthroat everything. Loyalty is very big where I’m from, and loyalty kills love. If we don’t have loyalty then we don’t have nothing because I’d rather have loyalty than love. I just made my name NFL so that it would stand out as to what I stand on.”
Rekko, who turned 21 on Dec. 29, displays the pain of losing a loved one and disdain for those who have doubted him over the years with his music. His song “Hold On,” has an R&B sound to it and an encouraging message to those who are feeling pain.
“You know when you’re going through a lot and you don’t have nobody to tell you that you’re going to make it, just hold on,” Rekko said. “Everybody just needs that one little push because you don’t know what people could be going through at any given time of the day, so everyone needs that one person just to tell them hold on, it’s coming.”
Rekko said his single “Don’t Talk to Me,” is “made for people who doubted me and didn’t believe in me.”
“I promise to my fans and family I will not let y'all down,” he said. “I’m leaving everything alone because it’s either the street or rapping. You can’t do both so you’ve got to pick one and I picked rapping. I’m not on the streets no more and you've got some people who want you to do this or they want you to still do bad. They want you in the streets because they don’t see nothing else for them to do, so why would you go do that. So that turns a lot of people against you.”
Rekko spent some time in jail in 2019 and while he was in jail, his brother, Kool, was killed in a home invasion. Rekko said music is keeping him out of jail and away from the street life.
“I’m in the studio probably 12 hours out of the day so I’m just working and working and working, which keeps my mind exercised so that way I don’t have to think about anything else,” he said. “From where I come from there’s a lot of problems and a lot of haters and there’s a lot of people that want you to do bad. They don’t want you to better than them. It’s more like a bad tree. If you maintain it for a while it may sprout but it may not grow because the environment isn’t right. It doesn’t matter how much water you put on it or how much sunlight you put on it, it’s not going to grow because everything around it is not supporting it.”
Rekko is working on a new album called “Bity On My Back,” which he said is inspired by the feeling that he is carrying his home town of Titusville, Florida on his back.
“I want to represent the whole city with this music,” Rekko said. “This album is going to be crazy right here, we’re going to have a lot of stuff to show my versatility. We’re going to have a lot of different genres, so on this album, it ain’t going to be no skipper. You’re going to want to hear every song on there from No. 1 all the way to No. 16 or 17. It’s going to pull you in.”
Rekko said the album will come out in early January.
