LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Amel Rose, a Texas-born singer and song-writer, got a taste of fame as an international model, but modeling started to get stale and singing was in her passion, so she decided to jump from in front of a camera to behind a microphone.
“When I was in Paris, I wasn’t happy with modeling and I thought I needed a new path,” Rose said. “There was a timeframe for a few years when I stopped singing because I was so focused on modeling, for some reason I stopped singing and was pretty shy about it and didn’t allow anyone to see me or hear me. Then when I was in Paris, my manager was like, I heard you sing in the shower, I know you've got it girl, why don’t you start practicing and writing, and one thing led to another and here I am.”
Growing up in small-town Texas on a horse farm Rose said she was into barrel racing and had animals around all the time.
And it was her dog that inspired her latest single, “Hey Mama,” a light-hearted tune that she hopes will catch on with audiences and build a new fan base.
“I think the idea came from when I was messing around with my dog and I call her 50 different names but one of them is mama,” Rose said. “And I was just playing with her and then for some reason they melody came into my head. Then I immediately went to the studio and found a beat board that I already had and went from there. It took like 15 minutes to write the whole song, it was crazy.”
Rose said the song may have come together quickly, but it carries a message she wants to convey in all her music.
“I’m not a super-well-known artist yet but I wanted to manifest my life in the spotlight and that kind of created ‘Hey Mama,’” she said. “I definitely want to represent love all around. I know everyone has interesting lives and different situations they’re in but no matter what I try to keep my music really honest, fun and just full of light. I want people to feel good when thy listen to it. I don’t want them to feel sad. I want them to feel inspired by my music, I think that’s really important to me.”
Rose said “Hey Mama” will likely be part of an EP she hopes to release sometime this summer. She’s hoping to put out around six songs from her song catalogue, but she and her team are still deciding which ones to include.
Another big goal Amel Rose has for 2022 is just to get out and build her fan base.
“I’m looking forward to connecting with more people and performing,” she said. “I want to get out there and allow people to start hearing me and seeing me and meeting a bunch of people and building a genuine fan base and just in general connecting with people more.
“I want to encourage people to enjoy life as it comes. We take life really seriously when all we’re trying to do is live and learn our lessons and be happy. It’s like the hardest thing to do as humans is be happy, but it’s honestly so easy. Be happy, try your hardest and don’t take life too seriously.”
